Erik Nakkenn is currently serving a two-year mission to the Alpine German-Speaking Mission (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Prior to leaving on his mission, he spent the summer visiting schools such as MIT, Yale, Harvard, Columbia, and Dartmouth, playing basketball for them and meeting with academic counselors. He was awarded the Westminister College Presidential Scholarship as well as a $68,000 scholarship to the University of Portland. Erik also received the Cedar City Elk’s Lodge Most Valuable Student Scholarship and was a Distinguished Scholar at Southern Utah University.
Erik was the Cedar High General Sterling Scholar and went on to win first place is the Utah southern region. Erik received the Wendy’s Heisman Award for academic and athletic excellence and was Academic All-State in basketball and baseball. In the areas of math and science, Erik won “Utah’s Largest Math Event” and took first place in the Science Olympiad in Anatomy and Physiology and second place in Experimental Design.
Erik was the Cedar High Valedictorian and the recipient of the Diploma of Merit in Academics, Leadership, Mathematics, Physical Education, and Science. He also served as senior class vice president and was a member of the Cedar City Youth Council.
