EnergySolutions Foundation Announces Expansions of Scholarship Program for High School Students in Idaho

Idaho, November 25, 2009 – The EnergySolutions Foundation announces the expansion of their scholarship program for students pursuing education in the fields of math, science and engineering. This merit-based scholarship program will recognize 10th grade students at eligible high schools. This will be based on excellence in academics.

The EnergySolutions Foundation scholarship program is expanding to include Rexburg, Madison Senior High School; Rigby, Rigby High School; Arco, Butte County High School.  Students selected for the scholarship will receive $2,000 toward a bachelor’s degree program in the fields of math, science, or engineering. The funds will be released when the student enrolls in an accredited university or junior college. Recipients from all participating states will then be entered into a pool for an additional three scholarships. These National Distinguished Awards are for an additional $2,500, $5,000 or $25,000.  This money will also be held until the students enroll in an accredited university or junior college.

“The EnergySolutions Foundation Scholarship Program is an extension of our commitment to this great community where EnergySolutions employees live and work,” said Steve Creamer, CEO of EnergySolutions. “In order for America to maintain its competitive edge and compete in the world marketplace, it is absolutely critical that weencourage our best students to pursue a scientific course in education.  The purpose of these scholarships is to increase the quality and quantity of students entering science, math and engineering programs.” This program is being offered in areas where EnergySolutions has major operations, including Utah, Tennessee, New Mexico, South Carolina, Georgia, Washington, Ohio, Illinois and Ontario Canada.        

A prestigious selection committee will determine the scholarship recipients. The selection committee is comprised of professionals across the country in the areas of science, math, engineering, and from academia. They will evaluate each application for academic achievement and community involvement, and will weigh any special circumstances cited by the school.  EnergySolutions Foundation will be accepting applications from Oct 5, 2009 through February 3, 2010.
