EnergySolutions Foundation Announces Annual Scholarship Program for Deep River High School Students

Deep River, October 8, 2009 – Beginning this Fall, the EnergySolutions Foundation scholarship program will be available to 10th grade students at Mackenzie High School located in Deep River, Ontario. This merit-based scholarship will be awarded to two 10th grade students who intend to pursue degrees in the fields of math, science, and engineering.

“EnergySolutions recognizes the long-standing tradition of academic excellence in the Deep River community. We are pleased to be able to support this tradition through the EnergySolutions Foundation scholarship program” said Carol Wilson Hodges, President, EnergySolutions Canada. In addition to Ontario, Canada, this program is being offered in other locations where EnergySolutions has major operations, including Utah, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Washington, Ohio, Illinois, New Mexico and Idaho. 

 Students selected for the scholarship will receive $2,000 toward a bachelor’s degree program in the fields of math, science, or engineering.

 The funds will be released when the student enrolls in an accredited university or junior college. Recipients from all participating locations will then be entered into a pool for an additional three scholarships. These Distinguished Awards are for an additional $2,500, $5,000 or $25,000.  This money will also be held until the students enroll in an accredited university or junior college.

“The EnergySolutions Foundation Scholarship Program is an extension of our commitment to this great community” said Steve Creamer, CEO of EnergySolutions. “The purpose of these scholarships is to increase the quality and quantity of students entering science, math and engineering programs.”       

 A prestigious selection committee will determine the scholarship recipients. The selection committee is comprised of both academic and industry professionals in the areas of science, math, engineering. They will evaluate each application for academic achievement and community involvement, and will weigh any special circumstances cited by the school.  EnergySolutions Foundation will be accepting applications from Oct 5, 2009 through February 3, 2010.
